Mark your calendars for the next free Bancroft Family Concert on November 22 featuring highlights from Handel's moving oratorio, Saul. Conducted by the Dallas Opera Music Director, Maestro Graeme Jenkins, the performance will be held in Horchow Auditorium at the DMA. The doors open at 2:30pm for a 3:00pm concert. The performance is one hour in length with no intermission. No admission fee or reservations required!

Maestro Jenkins will lead twelve musicians through selections of Handel's musical interpretations of the biblical story of Saul, David, and Jonathan. Among Saturday's cast of acclaimed performers will be British countertenor Ryland Angel as David, Jeffrey Snider in the title role of Saul, Derek Chester as Jonathan, Lynn Eustis as Michal, and Sarah Griffiths as Merab. Accompanying the soloists will be an ensemble of UNT students and faculty performing on period string instruments and a continuo group that includes harpsichord (Lenora McCroskey), Baroque cello (Gyongy Erodi), and theorbo (Lyle Nordstrom).

The July 27th concert features music for piano and string trio performed by the Mount Vernon Music Quartet: Steve Harlos (piano), Mark Miller (violin), Ute Miller (viola), and Carol Harlos (cello). The concert will begin with Beethoven’s Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 16, followed by a performance of Fauré’s popular Piano Quartet in c minor, Op. 15.

The 3:00PM feature performance will be preceded by For the Love of Music, a 20-minute youth recital beginning at 2:30 PM. Soprano Amber Wellborn, a University of North Texas student and first prize winner of the Dallas Opera Guild’s 2008 Vocal Competition, will perform works by Mozart, Poulenc, Schubert, Strauss, Brahms, and Carlisle Floyd. The July 20th concert features woodwind octet music performed by members of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and faculty of the University of North Texas. The octet will begin the concert with Beethoven?s Octet in E-Flat Major, op. 103, followed by a performance of Stravinsky?s Three Pieces for Clarinet Solo by Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra principal clarinetist Ana Victoria Luperi. The octet will then close the concert with woodwind arrangements of arias from Mozart?s The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, and Don Giovanni.

The 3:00PM feature performance will be preceded by For the Love of Music, a 20-minute youth recital beginning at 2:30 PM. Pianist Roderick Demmings, first place winner of the DeBose International Piano Competition and featured performer on the PBS series ?From the Top?, will perform the fourth movement of Beethoven?s Piano Sonata No. 18, Rachmaninov?s Prelude in B-Flat Major op. 23, and Debussy?s Reflections in the Water. Clarinetist Jimmye Ahn, a finalist in the International Clarinet Association High School Solo Competition and Grand Prize Winner of the Lewisville Lake Symphony Young Artist World Competition 2006, will perform the first movement of Carl Maria von Weber's Concerto No. 1 and Norbert Burgmuller's Duo for Clarinet and Piano.
